Comparativo & Superlativo / Comparative & Superlative

The weather is good = El tiempo está bueno

Yesterday the weather was better = Ayer el tiempo

Today there's the best weather of the year = Hoy hay el mejor tiempo del año

Tipos de comparación

Comparativo de igualdad

Formado con la estructura as...as (tan...como) para frases afirmativas e interrogativas y "not as...as" o "not so...as" para las frases negativas.

I'm as smart as you = Soy tan inteligente como tú
Am I as smart as you? = ¿Soy tan inteligente como tú?
I'm not so smart as you = No soy tan inteligente como tú

Se puede emplear también tras el segundo 'as' el pronombre en caso nominativo o acusativo (He, his ; She, her...) :

He is as smart as she; He is as smart as her = Él es tan inteligente como ella

Tratándose de una comparación entre dos verbos, se suele usar la expresión "as much as" (tanto como) también en forma negativa:

She does not eat as much as she should = Ella no come tanto como debería
Cuando la comparación se hace entre dos sustantivos se utiliza "as much as" para el singular y "as many as" para el plural.

I have as much tiredness as you = Tengo tanto cansancio como tú
I have as many virtues as you = Tengo tantas virtudes como tú

They're less tall tall than the giraffe = Ellos son menos bajos que la jirafa
They're not as tall as the giraffe = Ellos

efficient, more efficient, the most efficient

old, older, the oldest = viejo
new, newer, the newest = nuevo
dark, darker, the darkest = oscuro

happy, happier, the happiest = feliz
narrow, narrower, the narrowest = estrecho

interesting, more interesting, the most interesting = interesanteComparativos & Superlativos irregulares

Comparativos & Superlativos irregulares

good, better, the best = bueno, mejor, el mejor
bad, worse, the worst = malo, peor, el peor

Ejs:

• I have washed my dog. (Yo he lavado a mi perro) “Washed” es el
participio de wash

• She has hidden the truth (Ella ha escondido la verdad)

Verbo irregular: Swim (Nadar)
Present = Swim
Past Simple = Swam (Nadó)
Past Participle = Swum (Nadado)

Verbo regular: Look (Mirar)
Present = Look
Past Simple = Looked (Miró)
Past Participle = Looked (Mirado)

I have + participle
You have + participle
He has + participle
She has + participle
it has + participle
We have + participle
You have + participle
They have +participle

Reading Comprehension II

The Night When The English Parliament Almost Exploded

Guy Fawkes, was a English catholic who, with twelve friends more, made a plot to blow up the houses of Parliament, killing therefore King James I, his family and most of the Protestant aristocracy. To proceed with this plan the thirteen conspirators rented a room in the cellar of Parliament, in which they progressively stored thirty-six barrels of gunpowder. So they waited for the King to officially open the doors of parliament in early October, 1605, to blow up the barrels at such time as the King would sit on his Royal Throne. But a plague of epidemic forced to postpone the ceremony until November the fifth.
Ten days before the ceremony, William Parker, a noble catholic, baron of Monteagle and brother-in-law of Francis Tresham, one of the conspirators; received an anonymous letter that warned the danger of going to the ceremony. The four of November, Robert Cecil, Earl of Salisbury, who had a group of spies and knew of the plot months ago, ordered the chief of security, to record the parliament building. There they found Guy Fawkes reviewing preparations for the explosion. Historians say that Fawkes did not reveal the names of his accomplices.
Guy Fawkes and some conspirators were executed in act. Every year since that five of November the guard of Parliament has continued registering the building as a preamble to the ceremony of opening by the monarch.
